What are possible causes for IBS?
Interactions between the brain and the gut
One important cause is a disruption in the messages which are sent between your brain and your bowels. This means that your brain may be sending the wrong messages to the nerves controlling the muscles of your bowel.
We all experience at one time or another, some alteration in bowel function when under intense stress, such as before an important athletic event, school examination, or a family conflict.
People with IBS seem to have an overly sensitive bowel.
Emotional reasons
Repressed emotional issues like fear, anger and trauma which are not expressed find a physical way to the open – through the bowels.
Food Intolerance
Certain foods can cause the colon to malfunction, most common:
wheat, yeast, sugar, cow’s milk, beef and pork products, corn, coffee and orange juice
